Importance of soft skills in Personal and Professional life.

Imagine if you have in depth knowledge of a particular topic but you lack to explain it in a effective way, The knowledge proves null. We always perceive the employment scenario in India is negative. Doesn’t sounds true, but it is. This means that companies do not hire graduates who are not fit for the post even they have vacancies. Now the question arises –why graduates do not get the desired jobs? Do they not have required technical or domain knowledge? Even they have, they are lacking in soft skills.

Soft skills are the cluster of personal traits or qualities such as communication, personal habits, empathy, and presentation skills etc, which define how we interact with others. To imbibe these qualities is not a one day task; it is acquired through years of concentrated efforts. In this technological world, most of the people have same knowledge base, but what differentiates them is how well they communicate their knowledge and skills. The soft skills not only help to improve interaction with bosses, colleagues and clients but also influence how others perceive us. In the corporate world or in personal life, the people who do not gel with others often lag behind others.

Though we have soft skill training module in the curriculum, but to inculcate these skills requires personal efforts and desire to implement it in everyday life. In fact every where there is lot of focus on the technical skills but there is no emphasis on the behavioral aspect of the individual, the core ingredient for the career progression. The companies are affected considerably, if the workers don’t show the teamwork and are suffering from ego issues. For overall progression of any organization, coordination among employees is essential, that comes through soft skills. The reason why companies take interviews is to check the candidate on personal level precisely before hiring them. A person cannot be evaluated only on the basis of what knowledge he has, the level of soft skills is also to be considered. Technical skills are job specific but soft skills are applicable across roles and the factor that decides the career of any individual. The key points that support the structure of soft skill are:

·        Personal presentation- It includes appropriate dressing with personal grooming before going to work. The next important thing is body language which projects your thoughts constantly to your colleagues. Your appearance shows the interest level in work you have, the core thing about presenting yourself is how you make your image in others mind.

·        Communication- The perception of our personality to the world is totally depends on communicating style we have. Being Polite, helpful, and optimistic reaction to every situation with colleagues and clients makes you the likable personality. According to me communication is the foremost factor to every solution.

·        Attitude- we talk about positive thinking but we hardly practice it. No matter if the situation is against you, the courage to face and handle it should be at peak. Learning from mistakes and finding out solution shows how committed you are. Your attitude should be work oriented rather than word oriented.

·        Confidence- Believing in yourself and all your brilliant skills can help you work with people better. It indicates doing anything fearlessly and frankly and accomplishing the same.

·        Team work- Doing any kind of work coordinating with your colleagues is the most vital part in any job. The person with ego problems cannot do team work and can create unfavorable environment at the workplace.

·         Time management- showing up for work and meetings on time, sticking to your schedule, getting your work done in time to meet your deadlines shows that you can take responsibilities and manage yourself.
